Welcome Back!
We are extremely impressed with the first week of school. Students have settled in and have attended every class at lease once. The all are already working hard!
From the Academic Team
Mitchell Acceptance Letters
Students are starting to receive Mitchell acceptance
letters. This is an acknowledgement of a student’s hard work in
the Thames at Mitchell Program and the potential that the student has demonstrated academically and socially. We want to send students to Mitchell
when they are college ready so that they experience success. This is a rolling
admissions process and continues through the semester. Students will be
reviewed often throughout the semester by the Thames staff. In order to meet the
requirement for admission, students must continue to achieve the following
conditions:
- proven success in college academics
by maintaining a grade point average of 2.0 or better at the end of the
Thames at Mitchell Program;
- independent demonstration of an appropriate understanding and
application of the following competencies: self-awareness,
self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, responsible
decision making, executive functioning, and academics;
- be free on conduct issues; and
- consistent display of the habits of an upstanding college
community member by way of involvement in at least one club or leadership
opportunity and participation in community service.
Students Wondering
About Acceptance to Mitchell
If a student is wondering about acceptance to Mitchell, that student should reach out to the academic advisor or the directors to start that conversation. Students will talk about their goals for the rest of the semester, their ideas about majors and pathways, and other options. It is important to have the student start this conversation. We will include parents into the conversation once the student has initiated the conversation in terms of pathway, support, and other options.
Mitchell Process
Once students are accepted, they DO NOT have to reapply, but just acknowledge this plan with a commitment form. Students will also receive an admission’s packet full of information and next steps.
Thames to Mitchell students move to Mitchell with a recommendation to sign up for support services with The Bentsen Learning Center (BLC). The Director of the BLC will speak with students in the early spring.
There will be a meeting for students and families in the spring (usually on Zoom) to discuss transitioning to Mitchell were we will guide you through the process and explain the different college departments (BLC, Residential Life, Advisory, Accessibility Services).
To ease the transition for our students, the Thames team has numerous meetings with the staff at Mitchell.
Students Who May
Wish to Transfer
Some students may consider transferring to another school. They may see the directors or advisor for guidance, for example how to obtain a transcript, or for a letter of recommendation.
This is an exciting time for your student and you and we are here to assist with the process!
