From the Academic Instructors/Advisors

Missing  Assignments
Students have received an email from their instructors if they have missing assignments. All assignments should be passed in by December 9, 2022.

Final Exam Week
Here is some information about the final exam week and what you can expect.

  • Final Exam Week is Monday December 12, 2022 to Friday December 16, 2022.
  • The last exam scheduled is on Friday and finishes at 2:20PM. Most students do not have an exam on Friday and may choose to go home on Thursday.
  • Students have created a final exam schedule with their advisors in their planner.
  • Students have been creating a study plan for final exams with their instructors/advisors.

The leaving campus protocol will be discussed in a hall meeting before the end of the semester regarding what to do when you leave for the winter. When the procedure is published it will be included in this blog.

Helpful Hints for Parents/Guardians

Ask your students if there are any missing assignments. Encourage them to come up with a realistic plan that will help them to complete these assignments (Hint – students have completed this with their academic advisor – smile!). This plan also includes working in the evening and on the weekend. The plan should include working in the Matteson Hall, Study Room 106 daily; working with a tutor; and working with the instructors.

From the Social/Emotional Instructors

Community Service

All students have been required to participate in a Community Service event off-campus. These events are multi-purpose: offering opportunities for broadening perspectives, participating in a social event, and building community by working toward a common goal. So far this year we have had students participate in many activities. Students cleaned the beach and connected with Save the Sound for the annual International Coastal Cleanup. Students were tasked with reporting data on the type of trash that was collected on the shore. Students were provided background and information about how marine life is affected by contaminants. Students volunteered at the Don't Pass the Guitar event that raised funds for the Homeless Hospitality Center. It was held at the Hygenic Art Park in downtown New London. The Thames at Mitchell students also participated in the Halloween "Trunk or Treat" event sponsored by the City of New London and the Downtown New London Association. Students decorated the waterfront and passed out candy. The students were scheduled to participate in a Habitat for Humanity House Build in Norwich. Unfortunately, Habitat for Humanity made a mistake and changed the time for this event and did not communicate that to the SEL instructors. All was not lost – after eating bagels and grabbing their box lunches most students went on a hike to Bluff Point! Habitat for Humanity wrote us a letter of apology and have rescheduled our service day for January 18.
